Marc A. Fernandez-Yague, PhD

Principal Investigator

Marc earned his PhD investigating electromechanical coupling in cellular environments and has since gained expertise in FAK signaling, immune cell mechanotransduction, and high-throughput mechanotherapeutic screening. He has contributed significantly to the field with publications in Nature Communications, Science Advances, and other high-impact journals.

At QMUL, Marc leads an innovative research program in the Department of Chemistry, working closely with collaborators in biophysics, engineering, and synthetic biology to develop next-generation biomaterials

Sevcan Gazi
PhD Chemistry

Sevcan is a PhD student specializing in electromechanical coupling in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Her research focuses on myofibroblast differentiation, investigating how electrical and mechanical cues influence this process to advance the understanding of IPF progression and potential therapeutic strategies. She began her academic journey with a BSc in the Biology of Infectious Diseases at London Metropolitan University, followed by an MSc in Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology at Imperial College London. Beyond her research, Sevcan enjoys baking and crochet, blending creativity with science to maintain a well-rounded approach to her work and personal life.

Maahia Aziz Choudhury
MSc in Artificial Intelligence for Drug Discovery.

Maahia is a master's student in AI for Drug Discovery MSc program at Queen Mary University of London. Her research focuses on AI-powered modeling of focal adhesion dynamics to predict cellular behavior, integrating computational tools with experimental biology to advance understanding of mechanotransduction.

Isaiah Ulasi
MSc Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Isaiah is amaster's student in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Queen Mary University of London, specializing in nanomaterials for immune modulation. His research focuses on developing high-throughput mechano-actuating platforms to study immune cell activation and mechanotransduction, utilizing techniques such as solid-phase peptide synthesis, thiol-maleimide chemistry, HPLC-MS, AFM, and FRET imaging with FAK biosensors.
